Stephen Ministry

"Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2

God's Love In Action

Stephen Ministers are laypeople - Christian men and women - trained to provide confidential, one-to-one care to people experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment.

A Stephen Minister is...

  • A child of God who walks beside a person who is hurting.
  • A congregation member with gifts for caregiving who was carefully selected to serve in this role.
  • A lay person who has received 50 hours of training in providing emotional and spiritual care.
  • A caring, Christian friend who listens, cares, prays, supports, and encourages.
  • Someone who will "be there" for his or her care receiver, meeting faithfully for about an hour each week, for as long as there is a need.

A Stephen Minister begins a caring relationship when he or she is matched with a person experiencing a life crisis. The Stephen Minister then meets with that person on a regular basis to listen, care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support. The caring relationship lasts as long as the person is in need of care.

A true story of someone who was impacted by a Stephen Minister

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of Stephen Ministry. No one knows the identity of a care receiver except for his or her Stephen Minister and the pastor or Stephen Leader who paired the two together. The care receiver featured above stepped forward willingly to share his story.

Our Stephen Ministers are ready to provide you with the confidential, one-to-one Christian care you need to make it through a crisis or help you through a difficult time.
