Stories of Grace

Ordinary People, Extraordinary God

“…always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15)

Your story might not seem like much, but is in fact living evidence that Jesus is alive and at work in the world. More than any inspiring sermon, your real, personal account of God’s work can be an incredible picture of who God is, and why you have put your faith in Him. Have you found renewed hope, joy, purpose, peace, or comfort from God? Have you doubted or wrestled with faith and sense God respond? Did you hear or read something that changed the way you relate to your family, see yourself, or see God? Have you had a specific trial where you experienced God’s faithfulness?

No story is too small to be worth telling. Jesus said in John 5, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” God is indeed at work in all of our lives. By sharing your story, you are helping others connect the dots and see how all of our stories connect to God’s big story.

But sharing your story can be scary. It’s hard to be vulnerable and share part of our lives with people. Many of us feel uncomfortable in front of a camera. To help with all of this we have two amazing women (Jen Calverley and Deb Harrison) who are eager to help you feel comfortable, help you work out how to tell your story, and coach you on your delivery. Above all, it is helpful to remember that our stories are not about us, but about God. We don’t share our stories to make ourselves look good, but for people to know how God has impacted our lives.

If you have a story to share (and we all do!),  reach out to us to learn how to share your story. Below are a few stories from our congregation. We hope you are encouraged and strengthened in your faith through these ordinary but powerful stories.

"As long as we have stories to tell to each other there is hope. As long as we can remind each other of the lives of men and women in whom the love of God becomes manifest, there is reason to move forward to new land in which new stories are hidden."
– Henri Nouwen
