First Sundays Together

Dear Church,

Summer has been a wonderful time of worship together. There has been a wonderful energy in the room as children join in praising God with students and adults, and combining the student band and adult worship team has been a blessing for us all. Our young scripture readers have been so encouraged by participating, even receiving cheers from their friends when they head up to LTA after the greeting! We want to share with you some exciting news that as we launch a new year of ministry.

First Sundays Together

We have decided that these celebrations should not be only a seasonal event, but a regular rhythm in the life of our church. First Sundays Together” will be times of celebration and unification as we highlight the children’s theme for the coming month as well as a special feature for not just families but the whole church that is relatable to people of all ages. We hope that these Sundays strengthen our identity as a church family and help us get to know one another and celebrate the amazing things God is doing in our lives.

Beginning in October, on the first Sunday of each month, we will worship with one voice as one unified family. Adults, K-5 children, and students will begin together as we have done this summer, and split off into age-specific ministries after 20 minutes.

September 9 (Sunday after Labor Day & Fall Kickoff)

Theme: Initiative – Seeing what needs to be done and doing it
Feature: Commission Children, Student, and Adult LIFE Group leaders

Our yearly Fall Kickoff is a chance to commission our leaders that pour their lives (and their Sunday time!) into the lives of our children and students. We’ll get a chance to put faces to names and pray for these very important leaders in our community.

October 7 (First Sunday Together)

Theme: Contentment – Deciding to be okay with what you have
Feature: Operation Christmas Child Ministry

What better way to highlight our first “First Sunday Together” than a unified project serving those in need. Our Operation Christmas Child ministry has been running strong through LTA the past several years, but we want to engage our whole community with this opportunity to join with a powerful Gospel-Centered ministry to bless others and give back.

November 4 (First Sunday Together)

Theme: TBD
Feature: Children’s Bible Presentation

Our second “First Sunday Together” is a special Bible Presentation where our 1st and 2nd graders receive their first Bible! Join us in celebrating this very special moment in the life of dozens of families in our community.

December 2 (First Sunday Together)

Theme: TBD
Feature: Lessons and Carols

Finally, our third “First Sunday Together” is a musical feast with our annual Lessons and Carols service. We’ll bear witness to the birth of our savior Jesus with a traditional cycle of “lessons” (scripture readings) and “carols” (praise songs and hymns). This year we’ll feature music written by Ordinary Time, a folk trio born from our very own Ben Keyes, as well as traditional Advent and Christmas carols and songs.

Logistical Notes:

  • On our “First Sunday Together,” we will have both a 9:30 and 11 am worship service.
  • We love our little ones too, and acknowledge that this age needs extra special attention, so infant and Pre-K LTA will run the entire 9:30 hour as normal. Consider volunteering to serve here on 1st Sundays so our regular LTA staff can join us for worship!
  • Our monthly remembrance and celebration of Communion is moved to the 2nd Sunday October 2018 – June 2019.
  • Our Sanctuary Choir will sing on 3rd Sundays, September 2018 – June 2019.
